Texas is at Top on the List Marijuana Related Arrests

Based on a study that has been recently carried out by American Civil Liberties Union, Texas scored second on the list of detentions for the illegal possession of marijuana across the nation in 2010 with close to 75,000 arrests.

While many other states have progressively adopted a more lenient approach towards soft drugs in the last 2 years, Texas spent more $ 250,000,000 on prosecuting marijuana possessors in 2010.

The study also reveals racial differentiation between detainees as blacks were clearly more prone to be arrested in comparison to whites. Although according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the ratio of marijuana consumption between blacks and whites is identical, and although blacks amount to no more than 12 per cent of the general population in the state, they accounted for 25 per cent of the marijuana related arrests.
